The Big Sky Trails Association (BSTA) is excited to announce the launch of our new Adopt-A-Trail Program, aimed at empowering members and the local community to take a hands-on role in trail preservation. This initiative allows individuals, families, and organizations to “adopt” a section of their favorite trail and be directly involved in keeping it well-maintained and beautiful year-round.

How It Works

Participants in the Adopt-A-Trail program will be responsible for helping maintain a designated portion of a trail by performing light maintenance tasks such as clearing debris, checking for erosion, and ensuring the trail remains safe for hikers. We’ll provide training and equipment to all volunteers so they can safely contribute to the upkeep of our extensive trail network.

Why Join?

Not only will this program help preserve the natural beauty of our trails, but it’s also a fantastic way to give back to the community while spending time outdoors. Whether you’re an avid hiker, a local business, or a family looking for a meaningful project, adopting a trail gives you a chance to make a lasting impact.

Adopter Perks:

  • Recognition: Trail adopters will have their name or organization displayed on trailhead signs as a thank-you for their dedication to trail care.
  • Exclusive Adopter Events: Join us for special trail adopter meetups, where we’ll share updates, celebrate milestones, and learn from trail experts.
  • Connection to Nature: There’s no better way to deepen your connection to the land than by playing an active role in its preservation.

Volunteer with Us!

Our first volunteer orientation for the Adopt-A-Trail Program will be held on October 7, 2024. This training session will provide an overview of the program, a demonstration of the tools we’ll provide, and tips on maintaining trails with minimal environmental impact. To reserve your spot, visit the Volunteer Opportunities section on the Member Portal.

Building a Stronger Community

This program is about more than just maintaining trails—it’s about building a strong community of nature lovers dedicated to preserving our outdoor spaces. Whether you’re adopting a half-mile stretch or partnering with a local business to cover a longer section, your efforts will ensure that future generations can enjoy the same beautiful landscapes we treasure today.
