OREA Expands Trail Network with New Scenic Route
Discover the breathtaking Summit Vista Trail, a new 8-mile route designed for intermediate hikers.
We’ve got exciting news for our OREA members and outdoor enthusiasts! As part of our ongoing commitment to enhance the hiking experience, we’re thrilled to announce the expansion of our trail network with the addition of a brand-new scenic route—The Summit Vista Trail.
This 8-mile trail, designed for intermediate hikers, will take you through some of the most breathtaking landscapes the region has to offer. The route starts at Clearwater Trailhead, climbing through old-growth forests, crystal-clear mountain streams, and ending with panoramic views of the Big Sky Range.
Why the Summit Vista Trail?
Our association members have long expressed interest in having more access to higher-elevation trails, and we listened. The Summit Vista Trail sits at an elevation of 5,800 feet, offering a mix of rugged terrain and peaceful vistas, making it a perfect getaway for those looking to challenge themselves while taking in the beauty of nature.
In addition to its scenic beauty, the trail has been built with sustainability in mind. We’ve partnered with the Big Sky Conservancy to ensure minimal impact on the local wildlife and ecosystems. We’ve also incorporated erosion-resistant materials and designated wildlife crossing zones to protect local habitats.
Trail Features:
- Length: 8 miles (round trip)
- Difficulty: Intermediate
- Elevation Gain: 1,500 feet
- Trailhead: Clearwater Trailhead
- Key Highlights: Summit Ridge Overlook, Wildflower Meadow, and Alpine Lake.
Members-Only Preview Hike
As part of our dedication to giving our members exclusive perks, we’re hosting a Members-Only Preview Hike on October 1, 2024. This will be a guided hike led by our very own trail expert, Tom Rivers, who will offer insights into the history of the area, flora, and fauna you’ll encounter, and the behind-the-scenes efforts that went into creating this trail. Space is limited, so be sure to RSVP on the Member Portal.
Get Involved
We’re always looking for volunteers to help maintain our ever-growing trail network. If you’re interested in giving back to your community while enjoying the outdoors, check out our Volunteer Opportunities page and sign up for one of our upcoming trail workdays.
This expansion is just the beginning. BSTA has big plans for future projects, including the restoration of historical paths and the construction of family-friendly routes. Keep an eye on the blog for more exciting updates coming soon!
